Most of the energy consumed in the food manufacturing industry is thermal energy for heating or cooling processes. For heating processes, the thermal energy is often generated by burning fossil fuels or converted directly from electricity. The advantage of direct electric heating is the possibility of using renewable energy sources, thereby achieving a lower emission of greenhouse gases.However, the disadvantage is that it is often more expensive to operate than using fossil fuels and what is worse, if the electrical grid is mainly powered by fossil fuel the absolute emission of greenhouse gases will not be reduced, but maybe even increased.
We see an obvious solution to this challenge in making all equipment compatible with well-known technology which is electrically powered, but with a much higher utilization of the electricity – heat pumps.
Save up to more than 75% on heating
The energy distribution shown in the diagram is typical for processes in the industry. In this case, 70% of the consumed electricity is used for thermal energy, heating and cooling. By changing from electric resistance heaters to a heat pump powered system, the saving on the heating will be 75%*, corresponding to 40% of the total process consumption.
